Walk like an Egyptian...

Hello Everyone!

Egypt is absolutely one of the most extraordinary places I have ever been. I have wanted to go there ever since I was a little girl, but in the last few days it was surpassed my expectations of what I thought I would experience. I was a little nervous about being an American traveling in the Middle East, especially in Egypt where American tourists are often targets for bus or hotel bombings. But the people were amazingly nice and I only experienced a minimal amount of Anti-Americanism. I also felt very safe because on each bus we went on (because it was all Semester At Sea students) we had a security guard come on our bus with us, as well as having one police car un front of our bus and one police car behind our bus at all times. Also, there were metal detectors in each hotel we stayed in. I am going to make this entry as short as I can, because I am sick (stuffy nose and sore throat) and I have a huge assignment due in my class tomorrow. Also I am updating this from an internet cafe, so if the pictures are not in order, or too small, or weird, thats why!

Here we go...

We love the pics of you on "Mickey Mouse" etc. So glad to hear you were well-escorted! Unbelievable that you are actually exploring pyramids & at Tut's tomb. It must be so neat to see firsthand the pics in history books and add yourself to them. We are thinking of you and say prayers of safety, can't wait to hear some stories. Take care, love, Janice (Danny too!)

Hi M: Your photos from Egypt were amazing! I especially love the one of you and "Michael Jackson," the pyramids at sunrise, and I think there is a strong resemblance between you and that beautiful statue in front of the museum! So glad you felt safe while in Egypt...what an incredible trip you are having. I will forward this on to Bean. Love Aunt nancy

Wonderful pics. Michael Jackson was so cute. So glad you are experiencing everything possible - like camels and elephants and everything else that comes your way. You might not ever get another chance. Afterall, how many places do you go that have camels for you to ride around on? Stay well and get plenty of rest. Love you - Grandma
